N Scale FP7 Locomotives (2024)

EMD produced the 1500 horsepower FP7A locomotive between June 1949 and December 1953. The locomotives were extended in length by four feet (behind the first body side porthole) over the F7A for more water capacity. The water being needed for the steam generator which was used at the time for heating passenger cars. Despite this feature specific to passenger trains, these locomotives were used for both passenger and freight service.

381 FP7A units were built and while no FP7B units were sold, the FP7A was operated with regular F7B units. An EMD 16cyl 567B prime mover powered an EMD D-12 generator to provide the power to the four traction motors in the familiar Blomberg B trucks.

Don't model the original era of the FP7A? Many of the FP7A units were sold and are still in service today on shortlines and tourist railroads. It can still find a home on a modern layout!
